Culinary Arts

Parents and students:

Attendance is important in this class. Poor attendance is a major reason why the majority of our students fail. If your child is missing a lot of school, please be sure to follow up and see that not only do they have an excused admit, but that they are making up their work.

The major theme of this semester in my beginning classes is nutrition. We are emphasizing making good dietary choices. To do so, students must understand the basic macronutrients: fats, proteins and carbohydrates, and how each of these macronutrients come in healthy and unhealthy forms. This information is not only important for your child's long term health, it is knowledge that they should use as professionals in the foodservice industry. Two great outside resource students should check out to improve their understanding are: mypyramid.gov and Http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/

I encourage you to check out these sites with you child.

Within the next week, I will be posting the schedule of afterschool events for this semester. These events count as 10% of a advanced student's grade, and are a great learning opportunity for beginning students. Students can only attend if they have good behavior, and must sign up in advance. Please call or email if you have questions.
